Music

Music plays a very important role in the lives of children in Barnane N.S. We enjoy singing, playing instruments and showcasing our talents whenever we can!

Musical Instruments

Our music teacher, Mrs Avril Stapleton teaches tin whistle to children from first class to sixth class. Children are encouraged to bring in other instruments if they play them and join the school band. We are proud to say children in Barnane N.S. play an array of instruments including tin whistle, violin and ukulele. This year, alongside their tin whistle lessons, children were given the opportunity to learn a new traditional instrument such as the banjo, accordion and trad ukulele. We endeavour to encourage our children to showcase what they have learned in music recitals at every opportunity.

Performances and Concerts

Children regularly partake in the Peace Proms concert and perform at Christmas Carol Services in our local community centre or parish church. Every second year, Barnane N.S. holds a Christmas Concert in Drom Community Centre.

All set for Peace Proms at The Hub, Kilkenny. 3rd March 2018

Music Generation Tipperary

Music Generation is a performance music education programme for children and young people in County Tipperary. Junior Infants to Second Class children have the wonderful opportunity to engage with Music Generation Tipperary. Music Generation Tipperary is part of Music Generation – Ireland’s National Music Education Programme, initiated by Music Network and co-funded by U2. The children in Barnane NS are really enjoying this new music programme.

CD Launch in Barnane N.S.No Strangers to the Airwaves!

We have recorded and launched two school CDs in the past. The most recent CD titled ‘Lights are Shining’ was a great success and is regularly played on Tipp fm. The children had the opportunity to record two original pieces composed by the late Ann Gough (nee Kenny, Borrisoleigh).

Christmas Concert 2018- Pirates VS Mermaids.

What a spectacular show our Barnane children put on for families and friends this Christmas. We were thoroughly entertained with a variety of singing, dancing , acting and musical performances. What a talented bunch indeed! Our creative director Brenda magically transformed the stage and created amazing props. Well done to everyone involved. We are so proud of our small but mighty school!
